How to pack cargo? What goods require mandatory packaging?

Cargo packaging is an important stage in organizing cargo transportation. How well the cargo is packaged directly determines the condition in which it arrives at its destination. The danger of mechanical influences and climatic conditions can affect the safety of the packaging, and, accordingly, the cargo.

This is why high-quality and careful (taking into account the characteristics of the cargo, transportation conditions, landscape and climate of the area) packaging is so important: it can, if not completely protect the cargo from damage, but significantly minimize risk factors and significantly reduce possible damage from transportation.

Packing the cargo is the responsibility of the shipper! It is he who must take care to hand over the goods to the carrier in proper containers. However, the supplier can always order this service either from a third party or from the company that transports its cargo.

What you need to consider when packing cargo:

  • Type of cargo transported: dangerous, liquid, perishable, etc.;
  • Cargo properties: fragility, flowability, exposure to moisture, presence of sharp corners and cutting objects, tendency to deform, etc.;
  • Weight and dimensions of cargo;
  • Method of transportation: will the cargo be transported only by car or by another type of transport: for example, when moving by sea or river, it is advisable to use waterproof materials, and when delivering by plane, choose containers designed for high pressure;
  • Compatibility with other cargo (relevant for groupage cargo transportation);
  • Duration of transportation;
  • Weather and climatic conditions: temperature, humidity level, solar activity, season, etc.

How to arrange responsible storage of goods?
  1. Conclude an agreement on responsible storage and transfer inventory items (material assets) to the warehouse to the custodian. In accordance with paragraph 2 of Art. 887 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, the custodian certifies that things have been accepted into the warehouse for safekeeping with a receipt, receipt or other document with his signature issued to the depositor, i.e. to you. Accounting for goods in storage areas and in custodian warehouses is carried out by filling out standardized forms of primary documents. They are filled out in accordance with the instructions approved by Resolution of the State Statistics Committee of Russia dated 08/09/1999 No. 66.2
  2. Each transaction performed is formalized by a bilateral act of acceptance and transfer, which is signed by the depositor and the custodian (form No. MX-1), as well as acts of return of inventory items (form No. MX-3). The acceptance and transfer certificate, the number of its copies and the completeness of the package of documents are stipulated in the storage agreement. The return certificate is drawn up in two copies.
  3. If it is necessary to use stored equipment for demonstration, as well as to obtain inventory materials from the custodian organization, appoint a responsible person by order of the manager. This must be a full-time employee of the depositor organization. According to the order, he must be responsible for the storage of this equipment, which he received temporarily for demonstration as a sample, as well as for the timely transfer or receipt of this equipment for safekeeping.4 Thus, the main documents by which safekeeping is formalized and financial responsibility is monitored for goods and materials are acts filled out according to forms No. MX-1 and MX-3. Using these documents, you will be able to accurately establish the periods during which the equipment or other goods and materials were in safe custody in a specialized organization or with the bailor as a sample.
